The Life and Thoughts of a Modern Day American Heathen

Back and Here to Stay

I had some technical difficulties with GoDaddy, Google and nameservers but those are resolved now and after a haitus of a couple of days, A Heathen’s Day is back up. I apologize for my brief disappearing act (on top of my long absence due to surgery).

My condition is still improving. The doctors reckoned that  12 weeks after surgery I’d be back to normal household activities and it has now been eight weeks. I’m moving around better and doing a few things around the house. I can even hold my hands above the keyboard long enough to write a few sentences and I’ve been working on a review of Paxson’s Essential Asatru that I began before surgery. I hope to post that in the next day or so.

I’d like to thank everyone for sticking with me through all this.

  1. Welcome back Hrafnkell, glad to hear that you are on the mend. I look forward to reading your review. Just finishing up Germanic Spirituality by Bill Linzie:

  2. Yessir… nuttin’ like keepin’ going’!
Happy to know you are progressing.
Your body will let you know how much and when!
All the best, we’ll be here!

  3. Thank you both. Glad to be back even if not at full steam.

Bil’s article is a good one. I don’t agree with him on everything, especially with regards to Bauschatz’s theories on time and an over-reliance on, but the Germanic Spirituality article is, I think, a very good one.

I’m taking it nice and easy – home health care comes out once or twice a week and they say my CBC is headed in the right direction. The 5-pound weight limit is a pain in the ass but I’ll cope.

  4. Actdually, the five pound weight limit is more of a pain for the brain than for the ass I would assume….;-)
… just had to do it… remind you that the hardest part of this may very well be the reminder that the body is not indestructible nor is it indefatigable.
Take time to heal and all else will follow.

  5. LOL Martin,

Yeah, I’ve learned to appreciate my health through all this. I try not to think about how fragile my body still is and that life-vest defibrillator harness I have to wear is a constant reminder.

I have a cardiologist appt on Thursday so I hope to have some idea of how my healing is proceeding then. So far all I’ve seen are nurses and nurses practitioners.

  6. Very, very pleasant to see the blog–and you–up and about again. We’re all still pullin’ fer ya. Onwards and upwards!

  7. Glad to have you back!

  8. Good to see you writing again! Gimme something to read! :-)

  9. Sydryd… patience is a virtue… and we want it right now…? :-)

  10. Oh good. There you are. –I was imagining your aggravation upon finding the site down and thinking good gods, not what he needs right now.

  11. fromthediagonal… patience is a virtue? Who’s virtue? Not necessarily mine… :-P

Of course, I do expect Hrafnkell to recover before jumping into the writing of major articles. :-)

  12. I’m as impatient as anybody, if not more so. It’s frustrating not to be able to do the things you used to take for granted, including typing and thinking! I’m working into it slowly by polishing off this review and then (hopefully) working into some original pieces (probably short). I thank you all for your well wishes and assure you I’m eager to get back to writing – but Sydryd is right about the major articles!
