I’ve just finished upgrading the Mos Maiorum site (http://www.mosmaiorum.org) and I hope you’ll all drop by to have a look!

  1. Very nice! Certainly makes the articles a bit easier to read. The font/page colors for the last incarnation were a bit hard on my eyes. I think the only thing that surprised me was the embedded music, and nowhere to mute it. But, that’s just my issue, overall it looks great!

I’m glad you like it. I agree about the previous incarnation of the site. It was my first real website project and I fiddled quite a bit with the original template so it had little in common with how it started. The choice of colors was, I agree, hard on the eyes.

Sorry the music surprised you! I made it intentionally short so that it would stop after a minute or so (not sure it goes on that long even) rather than endlessly repeating. If it seems to be a problem with more people I might consider a control for it but I didn’t want to interrupt the design to put one on there.

Let me know if you discover any errors, typos, misspellings, that sort of thing. I tried to proof it but on a site that large I probably missed something. I did catch a few errors before I uploaded it.

If you have an article or a post of yours that you’d like me to host there let me know. I want to get as many different viewpoints as possible about aspects of Pagan religions (this is an open invitation to everybody).

I can’t pay anybody but I’m happy to host it and give credit where credit is due. I will also include links back to your blogs or sites if desired.

So, I dropped by to have a look!

Impressive, indeed! The site has a very professional look and is easily accessible. Speaking of accessibility, are the forums for members only or general public use? The reason I ask is that, even though a member (not a regular poster, though), I was not asked for a password, like on the original site. Is that because it’s a “once logged on-always logged on” thing or has the area been brought into the public domain?

LOL…the music…as munin_and_hugin said, so for me! Even though it seemed an appropriate genre (?), I’m glad it was short as I found it took my concentration away from reading!…I think it should be there as it adds a dramatic element although perhaps a bit shorter! In Frith, Stu.

Stu, glad you liked it! I haven’t made any changes to the Forums as far as accessibility so it could be your browser is set to keep you logged in…I know when I go I always have to sign in – I did as recently as yesterday.

I made an adjustment to the music. I lowered the volume from 5 to 3 to see if that helps. The piece that plays is only .30 seconds long in any event. If it annoys too many people I will have to look into shortening it or removing it altogether. Honestly, I thought it added to the “atmosphere”!

Another option would be to add a console but that would detract from the appearance of the site (where to put it?) and it’s hardly worth it for .30 seconds of music.

I appreciate the feedback and if you discover any typos or any other problems with the site let me know so I can fix it.
