  1. It still needs to be on the census – at least once every 50 years since the last time the religion question was on the census was 50 years ago! A lot has changed since then and I think the numbers might be even more shocking (to the religious right and the politicians who pander to the select crowd).

We change fashion trends every season. People have been trading in cars every two years (50 years ago they kept their cars MUCH longer). Divorce rates have gone crazy. And yet most want to assume that this is a Christian nation just because that’s what the last census 50 yrs ago described? It’s time for a new count. And yes, I did write to the census bureau and tell them that too.

  2. I agree with you Pom! These people are rapidly becoming marginalized and I think that’s the reason for the Fundamentalist reaction we’re seeing.

  3. Actually, this makes certain sects extremely happy. (a) Fundys WANT to be persecuted. Being in charge makes you the a-hole, not the victim. (b) This is further proof that we live in the “Days of Noah”- right before the Rapture!

  4. Yes, it does, I agree Personal Failure. And they DO want to be persecuted and they think they are being persecuted even when they’re the one’s doing the persecuting. Simply having to live in a world with the rest of us they take to be a form of persecution. It’s madness. Always has been, always will be; the greatest blight to strike humanity.

  5. As a person happy to say she has no religion or gods belief, this information is good to hear. Considering where I work and the crap I have to endure some days, it is heartening indeed to hear so many others are standing up and being counted. As soon as possible, I’m quitting that’s for sure.

  6. Gran, I can’t imagine having to work the kind of job you do in this religious climate. I hope you can get out of their sooner rather than later.

  7. Thanks, H. It’ll be a while due to the economy and what not. But yeah, I’m bailing out asap.

Still, as a proud daughter of mighty ancestors, I’m not hiding my views from these people. Never have. Never will.

  8. Good for you, Granamyr! I’m sure that doesn’t make life any easier on one level but I’ve always found life is easier when I can live with myself and remaining silent just isn’t an option these days.
