Texas Teacher Suspended for being a "Liberal" and an Atheist
Mr. Richard Mullens WAS a school teacher in Brookeland Tx – an incredibly “Conservative” area of Texas, and only 16 miles up the road from Jasper Tx. the scene of several incidents of racial violence and murder. Mr. Mullens was suspended as a teacher after a witch hunt based solely on his religious and political beliefs.

Quelle grande surprise, rural xenophobia running rampant, wrapped in a thin veneer of “Christian love”.
It’s one of the reasons why I dread having to go back to my hometown in North Dakota this summer–if they find out that I’m pagan, I don’t know that I’ll leave town alive.
It’s frightening, and all the while we have to listen to them whine about the ones being persecuted!
I haven’t seen anything about this situation elsewhere. Is it getting proper exposure? Texas or not, the U.S. Constitution still applies.
By the way, I’ve had your great work coming to my Dashboard, but will be adding it to my blogroll. My readers need to be following here.
Teachers Have Asscoaitions to deal with that type of things. It’s Illegal to come anywhere near fireing a teacher for being any religion or Poltico’
*sighs*
I get Christian Trolls over on my site from time to time …Sighs…
Siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh. Yet again another group of intolerant jerks making life difficult. I wonder how they’d feel if they were fired for being Christian? Oh, wait…that would just be more carrying the burden with Jesus. Once again, it’s all good when Yahweh’s people do it, NOT OK when someone does it to them. Hypocrite is spelled C..H..R…
Morning Angel, thank you. I’m hoping to get a chance to look at your blog later. Been one of those days. This story is getting some exposure on Digg but I haven’t seen anything in the mainstream media yet, nor from the ACLU.
Mrs. Flam, I hope this thing gets settled in a way that’s fair to the teacher. As you say, there are associations that deal with those things and failing that, the ACLU. But damn, nobody should have to go through that.
What George Carlin said about the south is true: The south is a great place to go if you don’t mind living in the 13th century.
Granamyr, they probably feel like they’re the ones being persecuted in this. For sure that’s how they’ll present it. They’re f-d up in the biggest way and I really do despair sometimes.
It may work out for the teacher in the long run …which is why people dont do that type of thing. He could get restitution , make up for the rest of his contract and make up pay till he finds another position .
I do hope the teacher makes out well , My husband is a teacher , and a Pagan. SO we keep on top of those type the laws.
Mrs. Flam, I hope he ends up OWNING them. They should be made to name the damn school after him for this. I can’t even imagine trying to be a teacher AND a Pagan. Our favorite teacher left because she was a bit of a free spirit who wore Birkenstock. Imagine how they’d have treated her if she’d been a Pagan too!
