The Life and Thoughts of a Modern Day American Heathen

More Superstition

Funny, I read this just a bit too late to include in my last post. Turns out that stupidity exists even back home in Minnesota. Thought Minnesotans were supposed to be more sensible than this but the disease is everywhere, and never stronger than in Rep. Michele Bachmann (R) Minnesota 6th District, who said:

“[Pelosi] is committed to her global warming fanaticism to the point where she has said that she’s just trying to save the planet. We all know that someone did that over 2,000 years ago, they saved the planet — we didn’t need Nancy Pelosi to do that.”

Really. And did Jesus, a first century illiterate Galilean dissident, know or care about global warming 2,000 years in the future? The problem is that Christians don’t care about this world, and this lack of concern should concern the rest of us. This world doesn’t matter because for 2,000 years these superstitious people have been waiting for the end of this world. The problem is, in 2,000 more years they’ll still be waiting. If it is destroyed at all it will be destroyed by people, not by YHWH and certainly not by an illiterate Galilean peasant who was crucified for sedition ca. 30 CE. Not happening.

As Keith Olbermann of MSNBC points out, she must live in a district populated by the inattentive. Whatever amount of our changing climate is due to a natural shift, we are, as humans, affecting our environment, and not for the better. Steps need to be taken to ensure that our children and our children’s children have a world to live on, because if we do nothing – and you can take this to the bank – in 2,000 years these fools will still be waiting and they’ll be living on a world that looks like that in Wall-E.

Let’s show a little common sense, 6th District. Send this woman packing and get somebody in there that pays attention to recent events. She can look for personal salvation in her Bible if she wants, but tell her she’s not taking the rest of us down with her in a self-destructive, death-embracing spiral.
